Brian King, Executive Director
For the past ten years, as a credentialed teacher, Brian has been leading outdoor activities, overnight adventures, and stewardship projects with at risk high school youth to learn about the environment, sustainability and most importantly, themselves. Because of the transformation he has seen with students, he founded MTNS2SEA to lead youth in nature full-time.
Carol Polhamus enjoyed 35 years as an educator working for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. She developed and implemented the Career Technical Education Program for the Alternative Education Programs including opening two small high schools focused on environmental education and career training. In her retirement, Carol enjoys the outdoors, hiking, traveling, gardening and birdwatching.
100 Ton US Coast Guard Licensed sailboat captain, 38 years of sailing experience including extended voyaging around the world. 10 years public/charter school teacher focused on hands-on real life learning. Carpenter and builder with a career spanning 30 years from homes, light commercial buildings, boats and Hollywood. Backpacking, Skiing/snowboarding, kiteboarding, skateboarding, surfing, fishing, mountain biking, and sailing all motivate Brian to get through the challenges of life and get out there! He has seen in his own life how being active in the outdoors makes huge positive impacts and enjoys sharing that with others.
Paul was brought up in the orchards of Cupertino and has lived through the valley’s transition from farms to silicon. From cutting apricots to working his way through the University of Santa Clara he’s been an active participant in Silicon Valley's growth for 40 years. At Intel he was on the forefront of the microprocessor revolution that helped usher in the digital age. His career includes bringing a variety of new technologies to market from e-mail to camera phones. Paul has a diverse background in consumer products, gourmet foods, action sports and sustainable technology. Paul is active in his community as a Docent at Natural Bridges State Park where he teaches and leads nature tours.
Tara has over 20 years of experience working with youth, 15 of which have been in various classroom settings. She has a passion for equity and believe that thinking outside the box in education is critical in these times.
Edison Jensen, ESQ
Edison A. Jensen is a lawyer practicing in Santa Cruz, California. He attended the University of California, Santa Cruz where he received a degree in Politics with an emphasis on International Relations. He subsequently attended Santa Clara University where he received his juris doctor. He has been practicing law in Santa Cruz since 1990 and has experience in a wide range of practice areas including healthcare law, board governance, regulations, lobbying, labor and employment law, business formation, contract formation and review, personal injury, probate and trust administration, estate planning, and mediation. He has previously served as an Arbitrator/Hearing Officer for labor disputes as well as a traffic court Judge Pro Tem.
Michael is currently is an architect for a firm in Saratoga. Avid surfer, soccer coach at Santa Cruz High School, he also volunteers for Boys and Girls club, Log Jam and Surf Aid.
